Job Description

Responsibilities

Support the NASA Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Services contract in a wide range of assignments, including the assessments of analytical items throughout the life cycle for each NASA ELV mission and build cycle for each NASA vehicle and associated payload/spacecraft.  Requires knowledge and expertise in the design, manufacture and operation of a variety of complex aerospace liquid propulsion systems utilized in support of space launch vehicles.  Duties will include monitoring launch services and launch site contractors for compliance with technical and mission requirements.

Perform reviews within the NASA Launch Services Program (LSP), provide documents and technical assessments of relevant issues that arise during the integration process.  Evaluation of these issues will require documentation as well as efforts such as independent analysis and recommendations on how to resolve the issues and may involve heavy communication with both NASA and Launch Vehicle Contractor (LVC) personnel.

Successful candidate will contribute to, and present at engineering review boards on related concerns that affect future missions along with attending and contributing to LVC design reviews, review test plans, witness tests, participate in mission integration meetings and NASA readiness reviews. Candidate will be required to clearly and concisely document findings/concerns and present to fellow engineers and NASA engineering management.

Candidate will perform tasks associated with space launch vehicle propulsion/pneumatic systems. Specifically, be able to understand and apply the relationships that describe the operation and performance of liquid rocket motors and main propulsion systems.  A preference will be placed on experience, skills, knowledge and/or abilities with the following characteristics and/or items:

  • First stage and upper stage propulsion systems.
  • Engines using liquid cryogenic fuel and liquid cryogenic oxygen, LOX/RP, LNG, other mixes and systems using the densification of liquid propellants.
  • Design, manufacture and testing of engines and engine components.
  • Experience with expendable Launch Vehicle engines/propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with RD-180, RL-10, M1D, MvacD, BE-3, BE-4 and/or any other Space Launch Vehicle liquid propelled engines is preferred.
  • Participate/oversee launch vehicle propulsion systems pre-launch integration, checkout, problem resolution and launch.
  • A thorough understanding of the full launch vehicle/payload mission life cycle involving launch vehicle propulsion systems is a plus.
  • Require dependability, self-motivation, good communication, strong interpersonal and good computer skills.
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft applications and Windows OS, required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel necessary.
  • Must be able to obtain NASA background badge requirement

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bac helors of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. Five years of  experience. Will consider 9 years of experience and/or certifications in lieu of Degree.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
