Job Description

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

The Instructor will be an experienced and energetic individual who will provide supervision to the after-school classes and support the after-school program and curricula. An Instructor has skills or talents that are the focus of the Academic or Recreational activity. Specialty Activities can include Academic, SEL, Art, Dance, Zumba, STEM, Literacy, Nutrition or organized Sports. The Instructor will facilitate activities, but not limited to homework help, academic enhancement, arts & crafts, sports, health & fitness, nutrition, dance, and STEM education.

Pay rate: $22/hourly

Work Schedule:  
Monday-Thursday 11:30am-6pm Fridays 8am-6pm
Hours for the last week of the Summer Rising Program will be from 8am-6pm. 
(Must be available from July 1st to August 16th)

Essential Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the participants in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
• Supervise, participate in and administer recreational activities for youth, and families.
• Provide a safe and fun environment for participants in Summer Rising Program. 
• Assisting in the implementation of a variety of age-appropriate and theme related activities.
• Provides homework assistance for all students in the homework session and guide them in academic growth.
• Work cooperatively with peers, professional staff, and other departments.
• Maintain equipment, storage facilities and inventory.
• Work closely with the Group Leaders to ensure best practices/program quality.
• Assist the Group Leaders with maintaining accurate program documentation (incident, accident and behavioral reports, attendance and sign-in/ sign-out sheets). 
• Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings and special events. 
• Will maintain a close relationship and report to the Program Director for delegated tasks and future assignments.
• Completes all job-related tasks and uses program time effectively during schedule working hours. 

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or GED required.
• The Instructor should be a certified matriculated College attendee who has more than three (3) years' experience in the art field.
• A Certified Education Specialty teacher, sub-teacher, or paraprofessional is preferred.
