The Show Lighting Designer Senior leads works as part of the Technical Show Quality Team to review and drive the quality of show lighting across the Walt Disney World Resort. The Show Lighting Designer Senior also supports the design implementation and lighting installation effort for the sustainment and refurbishment efforts across the resort.
You will report to the Manager, Technical Show Quality
This is a Full-Time role.
What You Will Do
Conduct Show Lighting Reviews on 3rd shift. (25% of work is 3rd shift)
Provide subject matter expertise to WDI, Engineering Services and other performing divisions and park operators.
Provide recommendations for show lighting upgrades to be included in the annual Infrastructure & Facilities Program(IFP)
Participates as needed in Post Turnover Support (PTS) activities to support show lighting warranty work.
Guides the initial and ongoing project estimating and scheduling efforts for lighting restoration projects.
Works with Art Directors to develop appropriate solutions to SQS (Show Quality Standards) issues.
Investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of WDI and Partners.
Responsible for supporting the continued development of the show lighting training program.
Responsible for the prioritization, execution, completion and reporting of lighting condition surveys.
Create Show Lighting Design Estimates and lighting work strategy.
Develop Show Lighting database, schedule, dimmer panels, Show Lighting drawings.
Direct in field implementation of Show Lighting design.
Supervise additional resources as required.
Work with supervisor in order to adhere to budget and schedule.
Participate in department initiatives and manage change.
If area of specialization is in lighting controls will provide project level design support to other Show Lighting Designers and Project teams in the field.
If area of specialization is in lighting controls will build control designs for implementation on projects and frequently supervise installation on such designs on the job site.
Draft, plan and schedule control designs in concert with facility design packages.
Estimate, plan and budget control systems.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experienced, professional lighting designer capable of producing designs which reflect both the theatrical and environmental nature of a Walt Disney Imagineering product.
Working knowledge of theatrical design and technical knowledge of specific subject area, including methods of construction.
Solid understanding of architectural and facility requirements and integration of specific subject area products into an attraction.
Participates in high pressure environment with strict schedule timelines.
Takes ownership and accepts responsibility for all aspects of product as presented to Disney’s guests.
Advanced knowledge of moving lights, theatrical controls and control distribution including DMX and Ethernet.
Extensive (min. 5 years) experience in related professional environment required.
Minimum 5 years design experience with lighting control and networking if area of specialization is lighting controls.
Current knowledge of new and developing technologies in field of expertise required.
Domestic and international travel required.
Education
Bachelor of Art or Master of Fine Arts preferred (Theater, Art, Design, Architecture) or equivalent work experience
